Stellar Industrial Wins the MSBA Applied Projects Award from The Center for Business Analytics, Milgard School of Business at University of Washington Tacoma

For its Marketing Analytics/Customer Retention Solution, Built in Conjunction with Master of Science Business Analytics Program Students

Tacoma, WA—Stellar Industrial Supply today announced it has won the MSBA Applied Projects Award from The Center for Business Analytics (CBA) in the Milgard School of Business at University of Washington Tacoma. Stellar Industrial won the award for its Marketing Analytics Solution Project, built in conjunction with Master of Science Business Analytics Program Students who are part of the school’s “Students-as-Adaptive Innovators Program”. The solution will be rolled out by Stellar Industrial company-wide to drive better customer experiences and augment existing and new customer sales initiatives.

Live in a sense we are testing with a user; using it to ID opportunities where a customer may buy one product, suggests you  can sell other stuff (abrasive, ear plugs, safety glasses) sales team goes in to convert customer or say should be considering cuz other business are using these products). Products we sell, or have not

The CBA serves as a catalyst for research, education, and innovation in the use of analytics, Big Data, and Smart Machines for actionable insights and business-decision making. “Students-as-Adaptive Innovators” works with participating organizations such as Stellar Industrial to engage students to work as consultants on existing business problems or cultivate new opportunities.

The program includes the MSBA Applied Project, which aims to improve the processes and performance of organizations with data, analytics, design, and service thinking. These live consultative projects typically include data collection, analysis, demo, service/digital transformation plans and recommendations. Projects look to address a problem domain in an area where analytic and digital solutions have not yet advanced to a point of wide-scale adoption.

In 2017, 17 companies submitted proposals to submit a project. Along with Stellar Industrial, Boeing, CHI Franciscan Health, Costco, DataCentral, US Corp., Delta Airlines, Metro Parks, SSMCP, and Turnover Intelligence were selected to participate in the program.

Students dedicate approximately six hours per week as part of specialized coursework called “Applied Project: Digital Transformation Lab.” Students are challenged to identify what relevant tool suites, analytics frameworks and emerging digital solutions (e.g. big data, mobile/ cloud/ fog/ cognitive computing, internet-of-things, social media, mobile, smart services) they deem might apply – and to get ‘as far as they can’ in discovering insights from the data.
